ANTOINE MERMET est musicien · compositeur · improvisateur et artiste pluridisciplinaire investi dans les champs de la danse, du théâtre, des arts visuels et de la performance. Il développe sur le saxophone, la voix et les instruments électroniques un langage qui tient compte autant de leurs potentialités mélodiques que bruitistes, et se forme sur le tard à la danse et au théâtre au cours de créations. Son amour pour la phonographie le mène à enregistrer et mixer régulièrement des albums pour d'autres ou pour lui-même.
Formé au saxophone classique, au jazz et à la composition électroacoustique, il a été élève de Stéphane Borrel, Jean Cohen et Laurent Fléchier. Adolescent, il est marqué par des stages d'improvisation libre auprès de Martine Altenburger et Jacques Di Donato. Il sort des conservatoires sans diplôme mais en ayant co-fondé le groupe CHROMB!
Actuellement, il joue et compose pour des groupes de musique dont il est membre fondateur : CHROMB! (lauréat Jazz Migration 2016, cinq albums), Saint Sadrill (trois albums), VOCODER (un album) et son solo Bouche Amplifiée (un album). Il travaille en trio avec le chorégraphe Nitsan Margaliot et le plasticien Joachim Perez sur des installations et des formes performatives sur des thématiques et archives queer, Unfit (Galerie Fifth Floor Tokyo 2024) et la pièce chorégraphique Porous (création 2024). Il continue une collaborations au long cours avec la plasticienne Tiphaine Calmettes pour qui il compose des environnements sonores depuis 2018 (CIAP Vassivières, Béton Salon Paris, Zoo Galerie Nantes).
Il est interprète pour la metteuse en scène Alice Laloy dans le Ring de Katharsy (Cie s'appelle reviens – création 2024), il chante dans Seuil performance du compositeur Clément Edouard (création Théâtre de Vanves 2023), et dans l'ensemble le Grand Sbam pour l'opéra Janus du compositeur Antoine Arnera sous la direction de Léo Margue (création Théâtre de la Renaissance à Oullins 2022).
De 2020 à 2022 il est musicien et acteur dans Faillir Être Flingué mis en scène par Guillaume Bailliart (Groupe Fantomas / MégaSuperThéâtre), adaptation du roman de Céline Minard pour laquelle il compose la musique avec Marie Nachury. En 2022, il est interprète pour l'installation Untitled (Song of Death) de l'artiste Megan Cope au Palais de Tokyo à Paris lors de l'exposition Réclamer la Terre. Il danse pour le chorégraphe Nitsan Margaliot dans Untitled (By Your Side) aux côtés de Jared Gradinger, Dario Wilmington et Alfredo Zinola (Somos Gallery Berlin – septembre 2022). En 2017/2018, il est en résidence à l'école élémentaire des Avignonnets à Saint Claude avec la musicienne Mélissa Acchiardi : à l'invitation de La Maison du Peuple / La Fraternelle, iels conçoivent Tout le Monde Ecoute, grande farce–spectacle déambulatoire en sept tableaux pour une ville, 120 élèves, deux bus, et sept lieux.
De 2011 à 2020 il a joué du saxophone et chanté dans The Very Big Experimental Orchestra avec ou sans Loïc Lantoine, sur trois albums et de nombreux concerts. Il a joué des concerts de musiques improvisées avec plus ou moins de régularité (avec Olivier Benoit, Axel Dörner, Adam Goodwin, Emilio Gordoa, Yann Joussein, Kastuyoshi Ku, Toshimaru Nakamura, Rieko Okuda, Adam Pultz-Melbye, Anne Quillier, Annti Virtaranta, Ute Wassermann... ) et collaboré ponctuellement avec Rone et Gaspar Claus (arrangements sur l'album Tohu Bohu – infiné 2013), le duo punk-noïse SEC (invité sur l'album Que Chaque Jour Soit Dimanche – A Tant Rêver du Roi 2014), le chorégraphe Benjamin Coyle (The Individual Failiure, Eldfell), le metteur en scène Arthur Viadieu (Seule la queue du castor peut tarir la rivière, J'aurais voulu être Jeff Bezos), composé la musique des films de Jordi Perino (Marie Salope, Massachusetts) et du vidéaste Malo Lacroix (Celui qui voulait croire au bison, en collaboration avec In Aeternam Vale).
Il a assuré la direction artistique et le mixage d'une dizaine d'albums, et signé des remixes pour d'autres artistes et sous différents pseudonymes pour des labels tels que Tigerbeat6, Infiné, Technowagon ou Balades Sonores.
